Description

TransportationCamp brings together thinkers and doers in the fields of transportation & technology.

Come to TransportationCamp Los Angeles 2015 if you’re a technologist who aspires to analyze and visualize public open data or build apps that connect people with mobility options. Come if you’re a transportation professional with a thorough awareness of the multimodal transportation system’s shortcomings and a desire to work collaboratively and creatively to improve it.

As an unconference, the session topics and activities are proposed by the attendees; every attendee is a participant in shaping and leading the event. Propose a session or see which sessions are being discussed on our Hackpad. Registration includes admission to the Camp, lunch, and refreshments. Note that attendance is limited to about 140 and we expect to sell out several weeks ahead of the event.

Here are a few checklist items to get you ready for Camp:

Getting Here

  1. Wondering where to park your bike or car? Or where to get off the bus? Or where to walk once you do? This Google Maps URL has you covered. Also look for IRL wayfinding signs.

  2. Arrive at 9:00 AM for registration and coffee in the 2nd floor elevator lobby.

  3. We’ll start “The Reveille” at 9:30 AM sharp in Public Affairs Building Room 2355 for The Reveille, which includes individual introductions and session planning.

Presenting

  1. Everyone’s a presenter! In the morning Reveille session, everyone will share their name and up to 6 words about why they’ve come to Transportation Camp.

  2. Have an idea of something you’d like to see discussed but not sure you want to present it? Get a conversation going on our Hackpad.

  3. Want to give a presentation? Bring session on a USB (computers will have PowerPoint and Adobe Reader), bring a computer and a way to connect to VGA, create a short URL to download from a fileshare service, or load via a browser (including Google Slides).

  4. Want to steer a session by taking notes? Bring a device that you're comfortable using to contribute on Hackpad - our repository of all the awesome learning and action items from camp.
  5. Have you been to 2 or more Transportation Camps? Email Juan Matute to let him know that you're a camp veteran.

Subsisting

We’ll have some coffee and tea in the morning, as well as a few pastries
Bring a container for water. There’s a chilled water dispenser on the 1st floor.
We’re going to have tacos for lunch. Make other arrangements if that’s not going to work for you.

  • Vices

  1. Want to get drinks after? Bring some money if you’re joining for the evening social time at The Glendon Bar.
  2. UCLA is a tobacco-free campus. You must leave campus (cross Hilgard Avenue) to use tobacco.
